Abstract

Accurate measurement of ground reaction forces (GRF) are an essential prerequisite to understanding the nature and locomotion response mechanisms of complex slip and fall situations. Significant shortcomings have been reported with many devices currently used to measure static and dynamic frictional loads. This paper describes performance characteristics of the multicomponent quartz piezoelectric force plate (FP) which has been used successfully over two decades for various biomechanical measurements including materials and impact testing, shoe/surface study, and frictional and GRF testing.
