Abstract

Characteristics of a long counter with a position-sensitive 3He proportional counter were examined by means of experiments and Monte Carlo simulations to explore the possibility of applying it to incident neutron energy estimation and dose equivalent evaluation. The long counter was energy sensitive, and can be used for the rough estimation of the energy of beam neutrons. The long counter could be used as an energy- and direction-sensitive dosimeter.
