Abstract

A set of tests for lime mortars which could serve as the basis for future preservation standards is suggested. The precautions to be taken when preparing the samples for these tests, such as types of molds and curing conditions, are discussed. The various tests necessary to minimally characterize lime mortars for conservation needs are presented while proposing some modifications for adapting present standards to this purpose. The need for establishing reasonable criteria for the perfomance evaluation of lime mortars to be used in architectural conservation is stressed.
