Abstract

Some theoretical and experimental research was developed to determine the bearing preload that can ensure, in imposed functioning conditions, a high service life for grinding machine main spindles. The static rigidity, bearing service life, and dynamic stability were considered the main parameters defining the main spindle reliability. From the results, the optimum bearing preload for a main spindle of special construction was determined. At the same time, an optimization methodology of the bearing preload for grinding machine main spindles is given.
