Strength Characteristic Analysis Using the “Database for Mechanical Properties of P/M Alloys”

Source

The database for powder metallurgy (P/M) alloys, “Database for Mechanical Properties of P/M Alloys,” is under construction by the task force of the New Materials Center of Osaka Science and Technology Center. The first issue of this database contains strength data for a variety of structural P/M alloys, and the data for Fe- and Al-base alloys occupy the majority of the database. In order to demonstrate the engineering utility of the database, some analyses were tried based on the data compiled in the database. We picked up the data for Fe-and Al-base alloys and analyzed distribution characteristics of their static and fatigue strengths. The main analytical result is an estimation method of the fatigue strength of pure Fe compacts proposed from the statistical evaluation of the fatigue life distribution. This estimation method gives P-S-N characteristics of pure Fe compacts when the densities of the compacts are given.
