Abstract

The Engineering Treatment Model (ETM) relates the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) and the J integral with the applied load or applied strain using a geometry independent, master-curve-type, equation. In the present paper, CTOD and J were examined as a function of the applied strain by means of comparing ETM predictions with earlier experimental and numerical results. A comparison was also made with a theoretical solution by Shih and Hutchinson. It was concluded that the ETM provides useful engineering approximations.
