    Abstract

    Environmental and industrial hygiene studies which involve characterization of surface particulate matter frequently require the use of multiple analytical techniques. This paper discusses the application of adhesive lift sampling technology which was developed to permit a surface sample to be collected “in-situ” and analyzed by both bulk and microscopic methods. Lead loading results and microscopy information obtained from adhesive lift, baby wipe and micro-vacuum samples used to collect surface dust from several different surfaces are reported. No attempt was made to statistically compare the results between adhesive lifts, baby wipes and micro-vacuum techniques. An analysis of the variability of lead concentration using side by side adhesive lifts indicate statistically significant differences in the spatial distribution.
