Abstract

California Technical Bulletin 133 is a fire test for seating furniture manufactured for use in public buildings. The test criteria of TB 133 have been modified to require mea- surement of peak rate of heat release and total heat release in the first 10 min of the test. This paper has summarized the history of TB 133, the test protocol, and test data from several hundred product evaluations. In addition, the effect of fire blocking materials, upholstery fabrics, filling or stuffing materials, and furniture style on heat release and other test criteria is discussed.
