Abstract

Current industry standard procedures exist for testing of curtain wall mockups for new construction. This paper will critically review how the standard procedures can provide an assessment of the capabilities of the curtain wall to control water and prevent leakage. The review is based on numerous mockup tests that the authors have prescribed and have reviewed during the course of their investigations of water leakage in many types of curtain walls, and during their peer review of the design of the curtain wall on new buildings. This review has revealed that additional test procedures and modifications to the standard test procedures for mockup testing will greatly aid in the value of the mockup towards assuring a leak-free curtain wall.
