Abstract

The focus of this paper is on the design development considerations for window detailing to prevent water leakage. Architectural design and detailing considerations discussed include: performance criteria; secondary flashing systems; integration with facade waterproofing; air seals; sealant selection and joint geometry; mullion and stack joint options; fastener locations and selection; and effects of product non-performance. Each of the design considerations are discussed with their effects and role on the waterproof integrity of the building facade. Examples of conceptual details to address waterproofing issues are provided.
