    Abstract

    A computer-controlled 100 kN high strain rate compression test system was developed for hot deformation experiments at up to 1300 °C under controlled strain rates between 0.01 s-1 and 200 s-1. The design implements a number of schemes tailored for high strain rate testing. These relate to the servo-hydraulics, mechanical fixtures, and controls. It incorporates “green” features such as low power pump, air-cooled heat exchanger, and a mechanical fuse to protect the load frame assembly and transducers from overloads.
