The boundary friction coefficients in a mixed lubrication regime have been identified by comparing the measured frictional characteristics with the calculated results obtained from the mixed lubrication analysis solving simultaneously the elastohydrodynamic lubrication equations and the contact ones. A block-on-ring friction tester set in a pressure vessel has been developed which is able to measure frictional characteristics in various lubrication conditions and many kinds of atmosphere. The test has been carried out in a refrigerant atmosphere.
