Abstract
This paper describes an estimation method of the boundary friction coefficient of sliding parts under mixed lubrication condition. The boundary friction coefficients in a mixed lubrication regime have been identified by comparing the measured frictional characteristics with the calculated results obtained from the mixed lubrication analysis solving simultaneously the elastohydrodynamic lubrication equations and the contact ones. A block-on-ring friction tester set in a pressure vessel has been developed which is able to measure frictional characteristics in various lubrication conditions and many kinds of atmosphere. The test has been carried out in a refrigerant atmosphere.
