    Abstract

    Many groups of nonionic surfactants, such as alkylphenol ethoxylates, linear alcohol ethoxylates, sorbitan derivatives and block copolymers have been used as tank mix adjuvants and in pesticide formulations. These surfactants are widely used in spreader-sticker-wetter type adjuvants, and crop oil emulsifiers. The selection of surfactant is based on cost, efficacy and phytotoxicity. A relatively unexplored group of branched C12 alcohol (DDA) ethoxylates offers exceptional wetting performance with relatively low phytotoxicity. The physical and surface properties important to the selection of a surfactant for use in a formulation indicate that the DDA ethoxylates would also be good candidates for use as emulsifiers in Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) and in Microemulsion (ME) products.
