Abstract

The surveillance program of the WWER-440 type pressurized water reactors (PWRs) is somewhat different from the surveillance programs of other PWRs. In view of this, a surveillance evaluation system was developed to solve the open questions connected with the design. This system was used to evaluate the results of the first two units of Paks NPS. This system compares the results of mechanical testing of surveillance specimens, dosimetry, nondestructive inspection, and stress and strain calculations under transient load. The final results show that the pressure vessel of the first unit is safe for the planned full 30 years lifetime without any change in the core or in the mode of operation. It is hoped that similar conclusions will be drawn after having completed surveillance measurements on the three other similar units under operation or construction.
