Abstract

In the present work we use a new model for calculating the effective charge induced per neutron capture in a prompt-response Self-Powered Neutron Detector (SPND). This charge is written as the integral over all possible energies of the spectral function S(E) weighted with the electron spectral contribution ∑(E). For the latter function, which has a clear physical meaning. we derived an analytical expression through the path-length distribution function n(k). This relation holds for both finite and infinite length emitters. The method was used to calculate the dependence of the effective charge with the geometry of the detector.
