Abstract

Niobium foil materials were irradiated in the cavity fission source of the National Bureau of Standards Reactor. The foils were counted directly with a germanium low-energy spectrometer (LEPS). A Monte Carlo code was written to calculate the number of X-rays at the detector for each disintegration. The measured cross section for the reaction 93Nb(n,n′)93mNb is 144 ± 5 mb.
