Abstract

Over the past several years, there has been an on-going effort to develop standard statistical guidelines for MIL-HDBK-17 (Composite Materials for Aircraft and Aerospace Applications). These guidelines are presented here in abbreviated form. The procedures employed fall into two major categories: (1) general statistical procedures and (2) specific statistical procedures for calculating material allowables. The first category includes the following procedures: a k-sample Anderson-Darling test for equality of populations, Lehmann's test for equality of variance, and Anderson-Darling tests for normality, lognormality and Weibullness. The second category includes the following procedures for calculating material allowables: a normal procedure in the presence of batch-to-batch variation and two-parameter Weibull, normal, lognormal, and non-parametric procedures for single populations.
