The Engineering Dielectrics Series covers both practical and theoretical facets of dielectric materials and systems that are suitable for use in electrical apparatus, cables, and devices.

The latest volume in the series, Monograph 2, covers both the applied and fundamental aspects of electrical insulating liquids.

    In 5 chapters:

Permittivity and Loss of Insulating Liquids -- Deals with the permittivity and dielectric loss and provides a description of the test methods and specimen cells particularly devised for the measurement of the dielectric properties of liquids over the entire frequency spectrum, extending into the optical frequency range.

Conduction Mechanisms in Liquids -- Considers the fundamental conduction processes, formation of space charges and prebreakdown and breakdown mechanisms from the quantitative point of view.

Electrical Breakdown in Dielectric Fluids -- Presents a qualitative account of the phenomenological events that precipitate the electrical breakdown of liquids.

Physical and Chemical Properties of Mineral Insulating Oils -- Discusses the physical and chemical properties of mineral oils and provides a description of the various test methods for determining theseproperties.

Molecular Structure and Composition of Liquid Insulating Materials -- Considers the general molecular structural nature of insulating liquids and their composition.

Both SI and CGS-Gaussian units are used in this volume. Useful conversion factors between the different systems of units are given in the appendices; a detailed treatment on the various systems of measure and their evolvement can be found in Vol IIB (STP 926).
