This chapter focuses on continuous improvement through a structured method utilizing a team approach to reduce variation and lead time. Statistical tools such as flow charts, run charts, trend charts, and Pareto charts are employed in the PIE (Plan/Initiate/Evaluate) process of product and/or service improvement activities. Examples of successful application of PIE are provided to assist the reader in understanding how to apply these techniques.
