    Abstract

This section describes accepted laboratory test methods as well as field test kits than can be used to detect microbial contamination in fuel facilities. Microorganisms can enter the fuel system in many ways, and cause a variety of problems. These problems can occur anywhere in the world. The purpose of this section is to explain the nature of the problem, and to define accepted means of detection. The tests listed herein were chosen due to wide use in the industry. All possible tests are not shown. Inclusion of a test in this section does not mean to imply that is an accepted test by any airline, aircraft manufacturer, or oil company.
