First Paragraph

ETHYLENE (C2), PROPYLENE (C3), AND THE C4 PRODUCTS (butene 1, butene-2, isobutylene and 1,3-butadiene) are monomers of enormous industrial importance. Among the numerous uses of ethylene are the synthesis of ethylene glycol, which is used for antifreeze formulation, and the production of polyethylene terephthalate. Ethylene is also used for polyethylene manufacture and as a co-monomer in the production of various synthetic rubbers.
