Abstract

ASTM WAS FORMED IN 1898 AS THE AMERICAN Society for Testing and Materials with a nucleus of 70 members. An extract from the original charter states: The corporation is formed for the promotion of knowledge of the materials of engineering, and the standardization of specifications and the methods of testing.
