    Effect of Vibration as a Cause of Leakage in Aluminum Beer Cans in Palletized Loads

    Abstract

    This study investigated the effect of transport vibration on the number of leakers produced in aluminum beer cans. Two different types of can bottom profiles (2D and 3A) were tested. The cans were packaged in corrugated trays and paperboard cartons. The effect of double stacking versus single stacking was also tested. The results showed that the highest number of leakers was produced in the 3A can bottom profile, when packaged in corrugated trays and double stacked two pallets high. There was no significant effect of can location within a layer on the number of leakers.
