Abstract

A test method has been established which permits utilization of strain gages to obtain mechanical properties of filaments. Uniaxial monotonic load-strain and creep measurements were made using several techniques to verify that the method measures properties representative of the flaments. The method eliminates the requirements of obtaining a compliance calibration of the testing machine and has the advantage of facilitating measurements of small strains in filaments having very high stiffness.
