Abstract

A test setup was designed and fabricated to simulate pipe reaction end loading on a large valve in accordance with the specifications and requirements of ANSI B16.41-1983. The setup can be used for testing different sizes of valves. A gate valve was tested using this setup for pipe reaction end loading when it was also internally pressurized. The valve was instrumented, and measurements were taken to record the strains and deflections during the test. The paper describes the salient features of the test setup, details of testing, and results of tests carried out on a 300 mm diameter gate valve.
