Abstract
An extension to the traditional engineering proof test has been used as a means of estimating the statistical distribution of component strength. The maximum likelihood analysis of censored samples has been applied to data obtained from components which fail the application of a proof load, in order to predict the distribution of those which survive. Extra data (for example, from component trials) can be included in this analysis to improve the estimates of the distribution parameters.
