Phase Extraction and Analysis in Superalloys—Second Summary of Investigations by ASTM Subcommittee E04.91

Abstract
Additional phase identification procedures for superalloys have been evaluated. Reproducibility of results has been assessed and some tentative procedures for extraction of powdered metals and for the separation of extracted carbide and Laves phases have been evaluated. A definite procedure has been established to minimize errors in the identification of X-ray diffraction patterns of superalloy phases. The need for integrated use of analytical techniques to identify phases and characterize alloys by combined extraction, optical, electron optical, microprobe, and X-ray diffraction techniques has been recognized.
