Abstract

The direct current electrical potential method for monitoring of crack length during fracture toughness JIc testing of low strength steels using the crack resistance curve approach is described. The experimental precautions and data processing procedure required for its application are described and discussed. Experimental data obtained from side-grooved, Charpy geometry specimens manufactured from a boiler plate steel are presented.
