Abstract

We have examined a composite pressure vessel using holographic interferometry. Interference patterns obtained from an internal pressure change show that there is an area of high shear strain in the knuckle area of the vessel that seems to correspond to the area of premature failure. We make several suggestions aimed at reducing the shear stress in the knuckle area.
