Abstract
Regulatory action has contributed almost 4% to the accumulated outage time of the nuclear plants. This translates into a loss of between $66 million and $280 million to the economy. Radiation-embrittlement-related regulatory actions and associated outages are predicted for the future. This paper evaluates the current regulations related to radiation embrittlement and discusses some of the current embrittlement issues. Weaknesses in the regulations are identified and recommendations for future research to overcome these weaknesses are presented.
