Abstract

Holographic interferometry is used to study the deformation of one surface of a concrete test specimen while water is allowed to diffuse into the body of the material. The potential of this new approach for examining the dynamic behavior of swelling concrete is demonstrated by applying the technique to two hardened concrete test specimens made with different aggregate materials.
