The Relationship Between Porosity and Air Permeability of Woven Textile Fabrics

Abstract

Based on a comprehensive review of the literature on textile fabric porosity, air permeability, and related research on fabric geometry, a study of the relationships between air permeability measurements and fabric pore size was undertaken using liquid porosimetry. Experiments were conducted on ten woven textile fabrics. Air permeability was most highly correlated with minimum pore size, but was also significantly correlated with mean flow pore size measurements and with calculated values of theoretical porosity and fabric cover factor.
