Abstract

A device capable of measuring the lateral displacement in triaxial tests on dry specimens is described. After a detailed discussion of the manufacture and properties of the device, results of the triaxial test obtained using this device are presented, which show remarkable inhomogeneous deformations over the specimen height at early stage of the test. The difficulty concerning evaluation imposed by the inhomogeneous deformation is circumvented by employing a deconvolution technique.
