Abstract

A servo-controlled cuboidal shear device with automatic data acquisition system is described. Provisions are made for pore-pressure measurements with specially designed “needle” piezometers. Complete stress-strain curves can be obtained with strains up to 20%. The application of servo-control in Ko consolidation and strain controlled loading is illustrated with flow charts and experimental data.
