    Abstract

Under certain circumstances, the measurement of the B value does not prove a reliable guide for ensuring that a triaxial sample is fully saturated. In such cases, an alternative method, that of monitoring compressional-wave signals, is suggested. The amount of instrumentation required is modest, and the method has proven dependable over a large number of tests on sand.
