Horizontal and Vertical Swell Pressures from a Triaxial Test: Feasibility Study

Abstract

Horizontal and vertical swell pressures of some anisotropic undistrubed soil specimens are measured in a double chamber triaxial cell. The equipment is also capable of measuring consolidation and strength parameters of the soil. Preliminary test results indicate no difference in swell pressure between vertical and horizontal orientations of the specimen when subject to no volume change.
