Abstract
Fourier transformation of an image and subsequent filtering in the frequency domain has been found to be an effective way to improve images of fingermarks on interfering backgrounds. Examples are given of success in reducing periodic backgrounds that would otherwise have prevented fingermark identification. In addition, it has been found that better background suppression is obtained when high-resolution images are used.
