Abstract

Art fraud constitutes a new area of investigation. Consequently, the legal profession is exploring the use of various fields of expertise to assist them in determining the authenticity of art. This paper defines the latitude of the document examiner in such cases.

In so doing, it describes the types of art applicable to document examination, enumerates the inherent limitations and hazards, and discusses the process and conclusions of this type of examination.
