Abstract

In this report, a fully three-dimensional finite-element analysis of residual curing stresses in cross-ply graphite/epoxy composite laminates is performed, and the error introduced by the common assumption of equality of all shear moduli and certain Poisson's ratios is examined. In particular, interlaminar stresses near the laminate midplane are presented. The error introduced by the assumption of coefficient equality will be shown to be significant only in the interlaminar shear stresses and insignificant in other stress components.
