Fractography Used to Identify Defective 0° Graphite/Epoxy Specimens
Clements, LL
Associate professor, San Jose State University, CA

Abstract

Test results on composite materials are frequently plagued by a few inexplicably low or otherwise anomalous results. Even though the researcher may suspect that there was some type of undetected flaw, scientific honesty dictates that, without further evidence, the data remain in the statistical results. This problem is particularly common for 0° and 90° unidirectional laminates, where the statistical deviations introduced by these “anomalies” may overwhelm any changes introduced by the variables of actual interest.
