Abstract

Kevlar 49† fibers, E.I. duPont, are increasingly being used in high performance, fibrous epoxy composites. To predict the durability of these composites with confidence requires identification of the microscopic deformation and failure processes and the structural parameters that control these processes. In this paper we review our present understanding of these processes in Kevlar/epoxy strands and multilayer composite pressure vessels.
