Abstract

High-volume low-cost composite materials offer improved dards of living for virtually everyone. These “everyman” composites, though less glamorous than more expensive materials used in space and aircraft applications, can provide performance not available from conventional materials. They allow more stylish designs and corrosion resistance in automobiles and household and yard appliances. Structural panels with natural insulating properties provide less expensive housing. Composites offer wider selections for durable goods niche markets through lower capital costs of relatively low volumes.
