Application of the Rapid Chloride Permeability Test to Evaluation of Penetrating Sealers for Concrete

Abstract

Specimens for rapid and long-term (90-day) chloride permeability measurements were prepared from a conventional concrete mixture. Three penetrating sealers were evaluated, using different methods of specimen conditioning. Results indicate that the rapid chloride permeability test may indicate differences between sealers which are not apparent when subjected to long-term chloride ponding. The method chosen to condition the specimens prior to testing has a significant influence upon the results.
