Abstract
In the deterioration of porous building materials, one could say that water is the root of all evil. This book covers the topic of water transport as few have with a focus on flow in commonly used construction materials. There are numerous books concerning flow through porous media, the majority of which are related to groundwater transport through soil. Certainly the extensive work done in the areas of soil physics and petroleum engineering form a sound theoretical basis. The authors draw on this knowledge and refine it to peculiarities encountered with waters interaction with brick, stone, and concrete.
