Statements addressing precision and bias are required in ASTM test methods. Numerical statements are based on an Interlaboratory Study (ILS) conducted during the development of the test method. A Research Report documents the ILS and contains a list of participating laboratories, description of samples, a copy of the laboratory instructions, the equipment/apparatus used, the data, a statistical summary and a copy of the Precision and Bias Statement, where applicable.
