1. Scope
1.1 This practice addresses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of pilots who operate unmanned aircraft (UA) through a remote control (RC) interface and in operations that remain within visual range of the pilot.
1.2 This practice is primarily intended to address the needs of those operating miniature unmanned aircraft systems (mini-UAS), but the language of the practice does not assume this case.
1.3 This practice incorporates practices for the training, qualifications, evaluation, and currency of such pilots. It also establishes a means for the authorization of such pilots to operate in the NAS.
1.4 This practice provides a means and recommended course of instruction intended to meet the Civil Aviation AuthorityÆs (CAA) requirements for issuing pilot, flight instructor, and ground instructor authorizations; the conditions under which those authorizations are necessary; and the privileges and limitations of those authorizations for the limited case outlined in 1.1.
1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
