1.1 This document will provide guidelines for monitoring and assessing overall panel and individual assessor performance in descriptive sensory panels 1.2 This document will provide guidelines to assist sensory professionals in measuring performance for a given panel and assessors. Measuring performance will form the basis for i) determining the scientific objectivity and validity of the results, ii) establishing panel credibility or specific remedial actions, and iii) establishing individual assessor credibility or specific remedial actions. 1.3 Individual assessor and group performance are tracked using established statistical procedures. These procedures consider an individual or groups responses over time as well as within sessions. 1.4 This document will examine various aspects of performance and how to measure them. The procedures will help the sensory professional determine areas of performance that require improvement. 1.5 This guide is limited to analyzing the performance of descriptive panels and assessors. It will not cover performance of sensory discrimination tests or subjective testing such as liking or preference tests. This document does not cover how to communicate this information to the panel or assessors. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
There is no existing document addressing this topic. Sensory professionals and panel leaders will use the document to determine qualification and retraining needs for their panels and assessors.
