1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers steel forgings, suitable for high strain gradient conditions such as those encountered in hooks, shackles, support frames, and other structural devices.1.2 Supplier may provide forgings in a partially completed condition when final processing and certification is by the purchaser. The partial condition shall be defined by the purchaser and agreed to by the supplier. Product marking shall be in accordance with Section 13 and supplier certification shall be in accordance with Section 12. This provision shall not be construed as a means to accept specification nonconformance.1.3 Unless the order specifies the applicable "M" specification designation, the material shall be furnished to the inch-pound units.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI (metric) units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.
