1. Scope
1.1 This specification quantifies wet applied horizontal joint sealants based upon their:
1.1.1 Weatherability,
1.1.2 Movement capability,
1.1.3 Puncture resistance,
1.1.4 Adhesion through immersion and movement,
1.1.5 Resistance to chemicals,
1.1.6 Tear resistance,
1.1.7 Abrasion resistance, and
1.1.8 Rheology at application.
This standard is needed because in the past traffic sealants were only determined by hardness. Research documented in past symposiums and the field shows that other factors are required to be considered in the design and use of these materials.
