Work Item: ASTM WK6265 - New Standard Practice for Application of Floor Polishes to Maintain Linoleum Flooring

Developed by Subcommittee: D21.05 | Committee D21 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

1.1 This practice covers the selection and application of floor finishes to properly maintain linoleum tile or sheet flooring. Floor polishes are applied to linoleum floors to provide protection and beautification of the floor surface. Sealing, cleaning, polish application, removal, and maintenance procedures are important functions in this process. Though linoleum is an older flooring technology, it is making a resurgance in both the household and consumer markets. Because of its alkali-sensitive chemical nature, the maintenance of linoleum requires different procedures than does the maintenance of vinyl or vinyl composition resilient flooring.
